The Koruso choir arose from the theatre performance 'Gelukkig zijn' by the Fast Forward theatre company. In 2015 and 2016 the singers appeared on stage nearly 60 times throughout the country. Twelve non-Dutch speakers talked about their lives and sang famous Flemish hits to offer stirring performances that attracted a lot of media attention.
Many of the participants were keen to carry on singing together after ‘Gelukkig zijn’ finished touring. That signalled the start of Koruso. Conducted by Andy Dhondt, the choir is now part of the Theater van A tot Z. Koruso mainly sings songs in Dutch. The singers have different language and cultural roots.
