Bruxelles Musette
Musette is Parisian-style blues. ‘Paris Musette’, created from a ‘dangerous liaison’ between the dance music of the Auvergnats and Italian folk tunes. Then, with a touch of jazz swing and the emotional depth of chanson, it becomes a pulsating blend of music, rich with melancholy and delightful virtuosity.
Paying homage to the music of Gus Viseur, ‘Bruxelles Musette’ will create a living memorial to the lost and forgotten accordionists who contributed to Brussels' vibrant soundscape over the last 100 years.

Gwen Cresens brings a tribute to the Django Reinhardt of the accordion: Gus Viseur (1915-1974). He was the one who breathed new life into the expansive accordion tradition by weaving in jazz influences: swing rhythms, richer harmonies, and improvisation heavily inspired by the dazzling swing jazz of Django Reinhardt and the edgy bebop of Charlie Parker. His membership in the famous Hot Club De France comes as no surprise. Gus Viseur was an inspiring accordion virtuoso, a gifted composer, a master of improvisation, a genuine jazz musician, and a gentleman through and through.
Bruxelles Musette seeks to reintroduce Gus Viseur, placing his music within its historical framework while bringing it into the modern era. The performance features Viseur’s own compositions, as well as those of his contemporaries, musical heirs, and devoted admirers—Jo Privat, Tony Murena, Marcel Azzola, Jean Corti, Richard Galliano, and Rony Verbiest—plus newly composed original music.
Bruxelles Musette is a heartfelt tribute calling for the return of our expatriated compatriot Gus Viseur to Belgium, granting him the place of honour he deserves in our rich musical heritage.
